Missions

At Cokesbury we believe that mission and other social action are an integral part of our faith in Jesus Christ.

One ongoing missions is serving food to the homeless. On the third Tuesday of the month we serve food to the homeless at New Hope Christian Fellowship, which is located at 2048 Watergate Court, Edgewood, MD.  If you would like to prepare food or help serve, please contact Kathy Plummer.

Another important part of Cokesbury’s mission is monthly donations from members for various organizations and causes. The Mission Team’s schedule for donations:

January: The Fuel Fund of Maryland

February: Harford Homeless Shelter at Riverside

March: Harford Family House

April: UMCOR

May: Suzanna Wesley House

June: Harford Community Action Agency

July: Charlie Riley Community Service Scholarship Foundation

August: Big Brothers/Big Sisters -- Central Maryland

September: Homeless at New Hope

October: UNICEF. Also, we distribute and collect trick-or-treat boxes for UNICEF.

November: Kairos Prison Ministry

December: United Methodist Church Board of Child Care

Some other ways to help with church missions throughout the year:

  • Non-perishable food items for FISH every month.
  • Coats and new white cotton underwear for Harford County Detention Center inmates.
  • Special collections in response to natural disasters and other emergencies.
  • Join the United Methodist Women chapter for additional mission opportunities.
